At SVOLTEX, we’re always excited to share our newest builds, and today, we’re pulling back the curtain on a model that perfectly encapsulates our design philosophy: the beautiful 2025 Urban Park Studio. This functional, modern studio is meticulously designed for those who crave a minimalist lifestyle, want to add a versatile Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) to their property, or need a dedicated, distraction-free home office. What makes this Urban Park Studio truly unique is how it masterfully blends striking contemporary architecture with hyper-efficient design choices that maximize every single square foot.
This isn’t just a tour of a new model. It’s a deep dive into the “why” behind every decision. Join us as we explore the thoughtful details that make the Urban Park Studio a special and highly adaptable tiny home.

An Architectural Statement: A Roofline Designed with Purpose
One of the first things you’ll notice about the Urban Park Studio is its unique and dramatic roofline. A massive structural beam, weighing over a thousand pounds, runs diagonally across the structure. This isn’t just an aesthetic choice; it’s a significant engineering feat that required the full skill of our craftsmen to execute. This powerful line creates an immediate visual element that is both modern and memorable.
This design choice serves a dual purpose:
- Aesthetic Character: The asymmetrical roofline gives the entire structure a signature character, setting it apart from typical box-like tiny homes. One corner of the home is purposefully lower, which, from the inside, creates a cozy, intimate vibe in that zone without feeling cramped.
- Volumetric Space: By raising the opposite corner, the design maximizes the feeling of vertical space where it’s needed most, such as in the main living area and the sleeping loft.
Seamlessly Connecting to the Outdoors
A core tenet of modern design is the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces. Malia Schultheis, SVOLTEX’s designer and CEO, is constantly seeking ways to bring the outdoors in, and the Urban Park Studio is a prime example. Large glass doors and strategically placed windows are used to open up the space, and they do more than just offer a view.
- Enhanced Sense of Space: Large glazing makes the interior feel significantly larger, open, and airy.
- Natural Light: Flooding the small footprint with natural light is crucial to prevent it from feeling like a cave. It boosts mood and reduces the need for artificial lighting during the day.
- High-Efficiency Windows: Beauty doesn’t come at the cost of performance. Our windows are ultra-efficient—double-paned and argon-filled. As explained by the U.S. Department of Energy, this technology dramatically reduces heat transfer, keeping the home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, which is essential for an energy-efficient functional living space.
The Art of the Edit: Convenience vs. Function in Tiny Design
In tiny home design, every square inch is precious real estate. Every decision involves a trade-off, and the true art lies in making choices that enhance livability. A prime example of this philosophy is the kitchen area in our Urban Park Studio.
Originally, Malia planned to include a second door next to the kitchen for easy outdoor access. However, after careful consideration of the daily workflow, she opted to remove the door in favor of extending the custom cabinetry. This seemingly small decision had a huge impact:
- Maximized Storage: It added several feet of valuable counter space and cabinetry, which is far more critical in a primary residence or a well-equipped guest suite than a second door.
- Improved Flow: This decision keeps the flow of the room open and uncluttered, preventing the kitchen from feeling like a hallway.
It’s all about finding the perfect balance between form and function, and in this case, the added cabinetry offers both timeless style and indispensable practicality.
A Kitchen That Works Smarter, Not Harder
The kitchen layout is an exercise in creative problem-solving.
- Clever Refrigeration: Instead of a traditional large fridge that would dominate the space, we opted for a sleek, under-counter double-drawer refrigerator. This is paired with a compact freezer located discreetly in the hallway. After carefully reviewing options and client feedback, we selected the most reliable and efficient models to ensure satisfaction.
- Strategic Appliance Placement: While it may seem unconventional to place the washer/dryer in the kitchen, the limited 11×18 space required thoughtful plumbing consolidation. By choosing trusted, compact brands, we ensured that all appliances remain easily accessible without disrupting the flow of the main living area.
Furnishing for Function: Where Style Meets Practicality
The final layer of a successful tiny home is the furniture. The pieces we selected for the Urban Park Studio had to be both functional and stylish.
- The Elevated IKEA Couch: The couch is from IKEA—a fantastic choice for its space-saving design and versatility. However, its standard look was a little too basic for the clean, modern aesthetic we were aiming for. The solution? We added a custom, high-quality washable cover to give it a more elevated, fresh, and bespoke look. It’s a simple change that makes a huge difference. Plus, the couch features a storage chaise, a non-negotiable bonus when you’re working with limited square footage.
- The Fireplace Focal Point: The fireplace is a key design feature that anchors the living space. We chose a light gray lime wash finish to complement the kitchen cabinets and maintain the open, airy feel. Above it, integrated TV hookups add both functionality and a cozy, homey touch without cluttering the room with a separate media console.
- The Cozy Sleeping Loft: The sleeping loft, situated just above the living area, is a perfect retreat. With limited floor space for traditional stairs, we opted for a sturdy, custom-built ladder with wide treads for safe and easy access. The loft comfortably fits a queen-sized bed, offering a spacious yet cozy escape after a long day.
The Small but Mighty Bathroom
In a compact space like the Urban Park Studio, the bathroom must be a model of efficiency without feeling claustrophobic.
- Warmth and Texture: A beautiful hickory vanity was chosen to add warmth and a touch of natural texture, preventing the small space from feeling sterile.
- Clean and Modern Lines: Simple, large-format, no-pattern tile was used on the floors. This creates a clean, unbroken visual plane, a classic design trick to make a small room feel larger.
- Quality Materials: Every detail, from the fixtures to the lighting, was carefully considered to provide ample function without feeling cramped, with high-quality materials chosen for both durability and easy maintenance.
The Ultimate Amenity: Flexibility
One of the things we love most about the Urban Park Studio is its incredible adaptability. The space can easily transform based on your evolving needs.
- The Kitchen-Free Option: We’ve built it with a full kitchen, but if cooking isn’t a priority, we could easily design it without one. This is perfect for those who want to turn it into a dedicated workout room, a spacious home office, or a light-filled art studio.
- Opening It Up: Want to add a massive folding door or a modern garage door to the space for a true indoor-outdoor experience? We can do that, too.
- The Perfect ADU or Guest Suite: It could make an amazing guesthouse, a short-term rental, or a private retreat in your backyard. For those with a smaller yard, this studio is small enough to fit comfortably without overwhelming the space.
- A Multi-Generational Solution: We’ve even designed it with parents in mind—this is the perfect solution for anyone looking to create a private space for university students living at home or as a dedicated home office for parents working remotely.
Customization and Personalization: Making It Yours
The best part? If you love the design of the Urban Park Studio but want to make it your own, we’re happy to make changes.
- Color Palette: For this build, we went with Sherwin Williams Repose Gray for the cabinetry and the bold Sherwin Williams Iron Ore for the accent wall, creating a perfect balance of light and dark that feels modern and inviting. But whether you want to tweak the color scheme or adjust the layout, we can work with you to personalize the studio to match your style.
- Design History: The first Urban Park Studio we built was custom-designed for a client with more of a country-inspired aesthetic, but we were able to make this version feel much more modern and architectural. This proves the versatility of the core design.
Whether you’re drawn to the clean lines of contemporary architecture or want something a little more personal, we’re here to help you bring your vision to life. The Urban Park Studio is more than just a tiny home—it’s a flexible, functional, and stylish solution for anyone looking to simplify their living space and embrace a new, more intentional way of living.
